Story By The River is our only Karjat property, and it is the one guests book when they want hills instead of sand. A 3BHK where rustic brick architecture meets warm wooden interiors, set in the valley with riverside access — and in the monsoon, when the coast is at its weakest, this is the best trip we offer.

It is also the most entertaining house in the collection for its size. An outdoor cinema, a bamboo bar, a games area with foosball, a BBQ setup and a back garden.

Where It Is

In Karjat, roughly two hours from Mumbai by road and reachable by train on the Central line — one of the few properties we host that does not need a car. Pune is a similar distance the other way, which makes it a natural midpoint for groups splitting travel.

Who It Suits

Is the river safe to swim in?

River levels rise fast in the monsoon and currents can be dangerous. Enjoy the access, but take local advice before entering the water.

Is it worth visiting outside the monsoon?

Yes — winter is excellent for trekking and the nights are cool. The monsoon is simply when it is at its most dramatic.

Can we get there without a car?

Yes. Karjat is a junction on the Central railway line with regular trains from Mumbai.

Is it good for a corporate offsite?

It is one of our better options, particularly for teams splitting travel with Pune.
